Personal Background John was born in Huntington Hospital and spent his first years on Bread and Cheese Hollow Rd in Fort Salonga, NY. His father, Walter Schoonmaker a Native New Yorker was born in Manhattan, spent much of his childhood in Sunnyside, Queens until moving out to Lloyd Harbor, and then Wincoma a tiny piece of Huntington and graduated from Huntington High School. After graduating, his father, joined the army and served for a number of years. Upon completing his commitment, he returned to Huntington and began his career with Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO). John's mother was born in Corona, Queens. Her family moved to Williston Park after purchasing their first home on Collins Ave. She attended St. Mary's in Manhasset, NY were she would graduate High School. She would meet and marry Walter Schoonmaker and raise a family in East Northport, NY. John attended public school (Pulaski Road Elementary School and East Northport Junior High School) before going onto St. Anthony's High School in Smithtown and eventually South Huntington. He would graduate and attend the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY Albany). After college, John met his wife and lived in Port Washington, NY for almost 15 years. John and Jo Anna have two beautiful children, Nicolena and Deklen. They moved to Laurel Hollow, NY where Nicolena attends West Side School and Deklen is a first grader at Goose Hill School. The kids love basketball and lacrosse and of course an iPad with MindCraft. Personal Interests John is an avid New York sports fan; his favorite teams are the Yankees, Islanders, Knicks and New York Giants. In his free time, he loves to play softball and spend time with his family. Real Estate has become a passion and learning about the homes on the Gold Coast, the history of Long Island is very interesting. With the density of fine food on Long Island, John has made it a point to try new restaurants. Weather and established eatery or a small nook on a back street, you can always find good food on Long Island. Coupled with food is John's interest in wine. Professional Background John comes to Laffey from OnPoint Partners, a national executive search and consulting firm specialized in the healthcare industry. John began his career with OnPoint as a Manager of Executive Search Operations and would eventually become President of the firm. As the former President, he brings more than a dozen years of industry and management experience to Laffey Fine Homes. As President of OnPoint, John was responsible for the day to day operations of the firm including staffing, training, vendor management, marketing and business development. During his career, John successfully developed OnPoint's National Managed Care Consulting Practice, providing services including network development, competitive discount analysis and hospital/ancillary contract negotiations.
