Intero Foundation Awards $15,100 in the Spirit of Giving

1449769504CUPERTINO, CA - Because we’re in the business of giving back, this month the Intero Foundation awarded another $15,100 to youth-oriented Bay Area non-profits. The holiday spirit is infectious, and the Foundation is wrapping up the year in style with another round of donations.

Six non-profits in San Jose, Hollister, and Morgan Hill were awarded grants to help disadvantaged children have positive holiday experiences. The holidays can be a difficult time for struggling families, and these grants are intentionally designated to a variety of holiday programs designed to bring joy and smiles to youth regardless of income.

This is the third year the Foundation has given additional grants for the holidays; this brings our yearly total donation amount to over $200,000. The $15,100 was split amongst the following organizations:

Parents Helping Parents – Based in San Jose and in service for over 37 years, PHP has helped hundreds of families with young disabled children. PHP provides a number of different services for families in their community, but this grant will be used specifically to help support their Holiday Open House; the program gives children with autism the opportunity to have a visit with Santa for the holidays. PHP received $2,500 to support their efforts.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of San Benito – Launched in 2007 and located in Hollister, CASA trains and provides advocates to uphold the rights and needs of neglected and abused children in foster care. They received $4,600 to assist them in their Holiday Project, which will provide gifts to 90 foster children.

Chamberlain’s Children Center – Based in Hollister, Chamberlain’s Children Center was founded in 1965 and officially recognized in 1976. CCC provides a number of services to empower at-risk children and help them lead successful, happy lives. They received $3,000 for their Children’s Christmas Experience program, which will take abused foster children living in their residential facility on a Kohl’s shopping trip for the holidays.

Reaching Out – Based in San Jose, Reaching Out began in 1979 as a church program. They work to provide food to low income, disadvantaged, and homeless children, as well as other basic life necessities and resources. Reaching Out received $2,500 to help buy toys for children at their annual food drive and toy giveaway.

Sunday Friends – Founded in San Jose in 1997, Sunday Friends empowers families to break the cycle of poverty using unique collaborative methods between parents, children, and volunteers in the community. They provide a number of resources to impoverished children and families utilizing interactive methods that foster a sense of self-respect, pride, and community. Sunday Friends received a $2,500 grant that will be used for their Annual Holiday Shopping Spree, during which families can earn toys and gifts to wrap and give to each other.

All six organizations provide vital services to their communities, and go above and beyond by ensuring that their local disadvantaged youth and families are able to enjoy the holiday season. They’re true testaments to the good of humankind, and reminders to us all to appreciate what we have and think of those that have less. The holidays are about giving, and we are so honored to have the privilege to give.
