Broker Q&A: José Ribes – Rimontgó

1423611267José Ribes, CEO of Rimontgó, shares how he got his start in the real estate business, the path his career has taken and what makes his company so successful. Rimontgó is a family-run real estate company that specializes in high quality property along the Costa Blanca (Jávea to Altea), Alicante, and Valencia. Founded in 1959, it is one of the longest-established real estate businesses with a longstanding reputation for quality, integrity and service-orientation. José and his company serve on the Luxury Real Estate Board of Regents and have been the recipients of several Luxury Real Estate Awards.

How did you start in real estate?

Rimontgó is a family business, so my role in the company started by me following in the footsteps of my father and grandfather, who began building and marketing properties on the Costa Blanca in the 1950s. After being trained in the United States, my brother and I focused on the expansion and internationalisation of our company from 1980.

What path has your career taken?

The development of my entire professional career has taken place in Rimontgó, so I have grown up in a company that I been a part of both professional and personally since I was a child. Later on, and over time, I have increased my experience in other areas, such as teaching, as I taught at the University of Valencia for a time. I have also collaborated with my regional government, the Community of Valencia, and with Spanish Ministry of Economy.

Why is your company successful?

There are various key aspects. The first is our in-depth knowledge of the market, due to over 50 years’ experience in the luxury housing sector. The second key aspect is our strong commitment to digital marketing (our websites have received awards worldwide on various occasions). The third aspect is our extensive portfolio, which is made up of exclusive products of proven quality. I also believe that our success is due to the fully personalized service that we offer our clients, which doesn’t end once the sales contract has been signed. Actually, we consider a lot of clients to be friends, as our relationship has extended beyond a purely professional one. Last but not least, we have some very important international connections, which are illustrated by our close relationship with Who's Who in Luxury Real Estate, Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, Luxury Portfolio, Christie’s International Real Estate or by our role as founders of the European Real Estate Network (EREN).

What are your favorite parts of your job?

I think we should start with the fact that purchasing a property is something that only occurs once or twice in someone’s lifetime, under very important circumstances, such as when starting a family or choosing a special place to live for a well-deserved retirement. For that reason we have the great responsibility of helping our clients to make the right decision that has a positive impact on their quality of life. The feeling of a job well done and that the effort was worthwhile is, frankly, the best part of my job.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Like any true Valencian, I love cooking paella with my family on Sundays. I also enjoy going cycling or sailing with my brother Antonio (sometimes we even catch a few fish!). Golf is another sport that I love to play when I get a chance.
