The iconic property sold for $8.6 million. 'Land's End' is an oceanfront estate on 5.6 acres on the southeastern point of Aquidneck Island. Designed by John Sturgis during Newport's Gilded Age, it is a classic example of understated elegance with modern upgrades. The eight-bedroom main residence is complemented by a three-bedroom carriage house, both with spectacular views. The property, once owned by the novelist Edith Wharton, was part of the estate of socialite Marion "Oatsie" Charles.
The sale of this iconic estate represents the third highest sale of a property in Rhode Island so far this year and the 15th highest sale in Newport historically.
