Kentwood Real Estate - Northern Properties Broker Manager Discusses Area’s COVID-19 Impacts on the Real Estate Industry

FORT COLLINS, CO – David Powell, Broker Manager at Kentwood Real Estate - Northern Properties office in Ft. Collins, CO, participated in a Zoom panel discussion of local real estate stakeholders to discuss how COVID-19 is affecting the industry locally. David spoke as a panelist at “Moving Deals Forward,” the Zoom discussion hosted by Stewart Title, from a broker management perspective on the best practices for agents closing deals, showing homes to prospective buyers and the market trends he is seeing in Northern Colorado.
“Luxury home prices will face the brunt of price decreases, but the lower-priced homes are still seeing multiple offers within the first few days of listing on the MLS,” said Powell. “I expect the market will continue to be in limbo for the short-term, reflecting uncertainty from home sellers and buyers about how long COVID-19 will last and whether it will impact prices. Despite the uncertainty, some people have a real need to shop for new homes.”
“Right now is a very interesting time to show properties because I’m not entirely comfortable showing homes in person - for buyers, the families whose homes are showing homes and myself - but there are some people who are in financial hardship that need to find a new home due to personal circumstances, COVID-19 or not. If local or state level stay-at-home orders remove real estate from the essential business classification, my main concern would be for those who need to find housing soon and whether they will be able to do so.”
When asked how Kentwood Real Estate has prepared their brokers for the coronavirus, Powell answered, “I compliment our CEO, Gretchen Rosenberg, who has her son in Seattle and a partner in Washington, D.C., who was far ahead of the curve preparing our brokers for COVID-19. We prepared care kits with free booties and hand sanitizer, but we continue to urge brokers to use their best judgment in showing homes while complying with social distancing measures.” Kentwood Real Estate has distributed COVID-19 Agent Care Packages to each of Kentwood’s Front Range offices, which include free booties and hand sanitizer for agents to use at showings.
While the majority of work is being done remotely to support our clients, brokers and staff, Kentwood Real Estate remains operational as stay-at-home orders still consider real estate an essential business. Kentwood will continue to monitor and adhere to guidelines set forth by health agencies such as the CDC, real estate associations and local authorities, and will remain a resource for our local communities. The company is strongly advising brokers to conduct real estate activities on an as-needed basis, mindful of their own and the communities’, safety and health.
