The Balearic Islands

Favorite

Description

Ideally located east of the Spanish mainland, the illustrious Balearic Islands maintain a unique character that is distinct from that of the rest of Spain, as well as from each other. Mallorca, the largest of the islands, has one of the most varied landscapes of any European island spotted with charming historic towns, bustling resorts and upscale shops; along with dramatic coastlines boasting mountainous peaks, sweeping bays, secluded coves and more than 250 pristine beaches to explore. The slightly smaller island of Menorca is far less crowded and surrounded by long stretches of unspoiled shorelines, shallow turquoise waters and serene sandy expanses that welcome families and kids. Possibly the most famous of the Balearics is Ibiza, also named the ‘White Island,’ whose legendary nightlife and lavish club scene have made it hugely popular among celebrities and high-net worth individuals. Formentera, the smallest and least developed of the islands, offers miles of untouched beaches with beautiful white sand and crystal-clear water, backed by protected sea dunes or dense pine forests.
