Ocean View, Water View.
Motukawaiti Island is the most southern island in the Cavalli Islands group.
This stunning freehold island is 37.9190 hectares in total on three separate titles located in the sub-tropical Island cluster just north of the Bay of Islands. Surrounded by crystal blue waters and fringed with golden sand beaches this is one of New Zealand’s best kept secrets.
On the western side of the island is a north-facing sandy beach protected from the ocean swells by a ring of islands. The wharf gives easy access to the island in all weathers – however the floating pontoon at the end of the wharf needs replacing.
Sitting above the beach is a luxury lodge complex which has currently ceased trading but has significant potential if reinstated. The amenities comprise of the original island homestead which has been extensively refurbished with an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge leading out to wide decks. This is a perfect place to reflect and to watch the incredible sunsets. This building has a large master bedroom with en-suite and two double bedrooms, with access to west-facing decks down a short hallway.
The renovated buildings feature a fully self-contained modern studio apartment just above the beach with decks leading to an in-ground swimming pool.
Up a short external staircase is another very large studio apartment with separate lounge area, spa facilities and treatment rooms. Separate from the complex and overlooking a large waterfront grassed area is a full commercial kitchen which is ideal for functions.
The property comes fully-furnished as it was left a few years ago although some refurbishment and a general tidy up is required.
Power is provided by a solar system with a bank of batteries for storage and a back-up generator. Water is via roof catchment and has tank storage and pumping system.
Motukawaiti Island is ready for its new owner and it could easily be returned to its former glory. It has great potential as a luxury retreat for personal or business use.
Please note the photos of the buildings on this property were taken soon after completion. The property has been unoccupied for some time and is showing the effect, however the buildings themselves appear to be in good condition with many chattels in place. Interested purchasers will need to inspect the property and make their own conclusions as to the condition of the land, buildings and chattels.
Access to the property is by boat from Matauri bay, which is approximately 3 kilometres away, or from the Bay of islands by an hour’s trip in a fast launch. If time is crucial a helicopter from Paihia or Kerikeri takes about ten minutes and from Auckland flight time is approximately 45 minutes. Either way you are in for a spectacular journey.
