Description

Willowbrook Deer Park is a high performing deer farming enterprise producing some of New Zealand’s top trophy stags and is a significant contributor to the trophy and velvet industry.

Located in the heart of South Canterbury, approximately 18km from Timaru, the property consists of 82.4050 hectares of predominantly flat to gently rolling irrigated land. Panoramic rural vistas towards the Southern Alps in the west and the South Pacific Ocean in the east add to the overall appeal of this stunning property.

The property has been owned by the Midgley family since the early 1900’s with Fallow and Red deer having been farmed on the property for the last 60 years.

The architect designed home, with its voluminous ceilings, large timber beams and hunting décor could be mistaken for a luxury lodge, rather than a sustainable home. It reaches out from the hill, growing from single storey to a double-height main living area. Featuring large open plain dinning and living with an open log fire, separate den with a log burner and three bed rooms plus studio. The master bedroom is situated in the east wing with two bedrooms in the west wing plus the separate studio room upstairs. Two offices and a large garage with internal access further compliment the home.

The house is off the grid producing energy through solar panels, feeding a bank of batteries. There is also a diesel-powered generator when needed. Additionally, a thermette boiler heats water, which is then piped throughout the house for both domestic hot water and the underfloor heating. The concrete flooring also acts as a heat sink, absorbing solar energy throughout the day and releasing it at night. Sustainability may lie at the heart of this house, but amenity is equally important.
