The exterior of Chateau de Vieillecourt is that of a sturdy medieval castle from the 15th century, with a "taille humaine" – a human scale – as the French say so graciously. It is a French national monument (ISMH), tastefully restored with the retention of all of its authenticity, both inside and out, but now equipped with today's requisite contemporary comforts. Situated in the north of the Dordogne (Périgord Vert), it is approximately 875 km from Utrecht in a hilly landscape with beautiful vistas.
Because of the estate's location, the castle has a unique and unencumbered view – as a true medieval castle should – surrounded by extensive park-like grounds (approximately 72 ha), with two small lakes, various creeks, meadows and woods. This gives you the luxury of going for lovely walks on your own grounds.
Various outbuildings, such as a stable, guest accommodations for eight persons and a rentable "gite" for six persons, complete the scene.
The current owners are quite willing – in a personal discussion in the Netherlands – to explain what it means to live in and maintain a castle.
