Civitella della Chiana is a small fortified village, among the best preserved in Tuscany, of Lombard origin of the 7th century, dominated over the entire Val di Chiana on the roads between Siena, Florence and Perugia, a strategic point for the whole of Central Italy. The village is framed by an elliptical wall surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and typical Tuscan vegetation, close to the main roads and all services.

At the center of the village stands the 'Rocca' (fortress), superbly visible from great distances, and in its vicinity the 'Palazzo dei Capitani' (958 A.D.), which then became 'Palazzo Podestarile' of Civitella in the middle of the 14th century.
The Palace is unique in its kind, both for its extraordinary original construction, perfectly preserved, and because there is nothing similar that has a history of at least ten centuries which is privately owned. The front porch, the ancient garden and the main façade are embellished with more than thirty noble coats of arms, among which three works by the Della Robbia, the houses of the 'Podestà Reggenti' in the various eras.

The Palace is a treasure trove of three precious large frescoes by Spinello Aretino, a famous and active painter of the Tuscan '300 . In the "Sala degli Affari" there are "the Incredulity of Saint Thomas" and the "Saint Christopher and the Child with the World in Hand", while in the "Hall of Audiences" the "Madonna with the Child on the Throne between the Saints shines ".

The building has a classical "H" plan, spread over a total area of about 1,000 square meters on four floors: basement with cellars and a museum oil mill. Civitella della Chiana est un petit village fortifié, l'un des mieux conservés de Toscane, d'origine lombarde du VIIe siècle, dominant tout le Val di Chiana sur les routes reliant Sienne, Florence et Pérouse, un point stratégique pour l'ensemble de l'Italie centrale. . Le porche, le jardin ancien et la façade principale sont ornés de plus de trente armoiries nobles, parmi lesquelles trois œuvres par les Della Robbia, les maisons du «Podestà Reggenti» de différentes époques.

Le palais abrite trois grandes et précieuses fresques de Spinello Aretino, célèbre peintre actif dans la Toscane du XIVème siècle. Dans la "Sala degli Affari", il y a "l'incrédulité de saint Thomas" et "saint Christophe et l'enfant avec le monde à la main", tandis que dans la "salle des audiences", la "Vierge à l'enfant sur le trône entre les Saints brille ".

Le bâtiment a un plan classique en "H", réparti sur une superficie totale d'environ 1 000 mètres carrés sur quatre étages: sous-sol avec caves et moulin à huile, maintenant devenu un musée. Rez-de-chaussée, avec cuisines, chambres, bureau - bibliothèque, salle de travail et jardin. Civitella della Chiana è un piccolo borgo fortificato, tra i meglio conservati in Toscana, di origine Longobarda del VII secolo, predominate sull’intera Valdichiana sulle vie di comunicazione tra Siena, Firenze e Perugia, punto strategico per l’intera Italia Centrale. Il borgo è incorniciato da una cinta muraria di forma ellittica , circondato da vigneti, oliveti e tipica vegetazione toscana , vicino al contempo alle principali vie di comunicazione ed a tutti i servizi .
Al centro del borgo si erge imponente la Rocca, splendidamente visibile da grandi distanze, e nelle sue vicinanze il Palazzo dei Capitani ( 958 D.C.), divenuto poi nella metà del ‘300 il Palazzo Podestarile di Civitella .
Il Palazzo è unico nel suo genere, sia per la straordinaria bellezza costruttiva originaria, perfettamente conservata , sia perché non esiste nulla del genere che abbia una storia di almeno dieci secoli ancora in mano ai privati . Caratteristico il porticato antistante, il giardino antico e la facciata principale impreziosita da più di trenta stemmi nobiliari, tra i quali tre opere dei Della Robbia, delle casate dei Podestà reggenti nelle varie epoche.
Il Palazzo è scrigno di tre preziosi grandi affreschi di Spinello Aretino, famoso ed attivo Pittore del ‘300 Toscano. Nella Sala degli Affari si trovano “l’Incredulità di San Tommaso” ed il “San Cristoforo ed il Bambino con il Mondo in Mano“, mentre nella Sala delle Udienze risplende la “Madonna con il Bambino sul Trono tra i Santi“.
Il Palazzo ha una classica pianta ad “H”, si sviluppa per una superficie complessiva di circa 1.000 mq su quattro piani : Seminterrato con Cantine e Frantoio Museale. Piano Terra, con Cucine, Sale, Studio - Biblioteca, Sala degli Affari e Giardino. Piano Nobile con quattro suite con bagni privati e la Sala delle Udienze, e Piano Mansarda abitabile.
