Kerkstraat 6
Loenen Aan De Vecht, Netherlands

Amenities

Garage, Garden.

Description

This very charming Dutch monumental family home (a former sexton and teacher's residence) is located in the middle of the old village centre of Loenen aan de Vecht. The monumental building is very child-friendly and is located on the car-free church square. What makes this building unique is it's attractive, private backyard with an idyllic view of the church tower. There is also access to a storage area/shed and a closed back entrance via a unique indoor entrance/corridor.

Layout: A stately entrance through the beautifully crafted panelled door with a classic wood frame on the back and an atmospheric skylight. You approach the house through a wide hall with marble floor tiles and panelling. A fine detail is that the old tiles are still in place. On your left, you will find the sitting room, which has a beautiful oak wooden floor, high-beamed ceiling, handmade bookcase and fireplace. These elements give the room a stylish and warm atmosphere.
On the right of the hall is a work/study room with customised cabinets and an excellent view of the church square. The central staircase is in the middle of the house. A small basement is located below street level, which also houses the toilet and a very old cellar or storage area.
There is a corridor to the spacious living room, which has a beautiful beamed ceiling, oak wooden floors and two large doors to the private backyard.
The corridor to the spacious living-dining kitchen. This very bright and cosy living room is partially located in an attached conservatory with a spacious kitchen in the original extension. Behind it is the utility room, which has a sink and connections for a washer/dryer. (Can also be ideally transformed into a toilet at a later date)

First floor: you reach the upstairs room via the staircase, which is located above the basement. This is one of the 4 bedrooms, which is now used as a playroom/study.
The first floor has 3 bedrooms, 2 of which face onto the church square. Both bedrooms have an unusual vide, accessible via a straight staircase. 1 bedroom has a dormer window. Both are equipped with fitted wardrobes.
The bathroom, which is equipped with a bath, shower, toilet and washbasin, is located across the landing. There are authentic beams over the entire floor. There is also cupboard space in the landing. At the rear is the master bedroom with fitted wardrobes and pleasant view of the backyard.

Storage space: The symmetry of the facade is broken by a large door/gate on the right hand side. This gives you access to a very spacious storage area/garage for your bikes, for example, but it also serves as a passage to the backyard.

Garden: A unique courtyard in the middle of the village. Extremely atmospheric with a view of the church. There are various pleasant places to sit or to enjoy the sunny terrace. Adjacent to the utility room is a spacious shed/hobby room.

Loenen aan de Vecht is centrally located between Hilversum, Amsterdam and Utrecht. The municipality of Loenen belongs to the province of Utrecht and is a very characteristic village through which meanders the River Vecht. There is a small shopping centre, several good (star) restaurants, schools, a pre-school nursery, hockey, football and tennis clubs and a beautiful 9-hole golf course.

A piece of history: This house was rebuilt in 1672, after being destroyed by the French. It appears from a warrant of 1515 that the then house was inhabited by the sexton of the church. He was also obliged to provide education for the children, who would otherwise wander aimlessly around the streets. The current appearance of the house dates from renovation work at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The house was then plastered and provided with empire windows. Afterwards, the house was adapted to new needs several times.
In 1980, the house was restored and given an extension in 1994. In 2009, some innovation was carried out (including a bathroom) and the front facade was restored. The house has an L-shaped floor plan and consists of two square layers at right angles to each other. A modern extension with a basement has been built against the rear facade, which is constructed in half-brick masonry. The roof of the main building is composed of two different sized roofs, which are parallel to the road at the apex and are built on the right side against the high sidewall of Kerkstraat 5.
