1998 LIFE magazine Dream House design!
In the 90s, LIFE magazine launched its brilliant ‘Dream House’ experiment, commissioning famous architects to design the perfect home. Maven of American Minimalism Hugh Newell Jacobsen was asked to participate and designed the 1998 Dream House, one of the most popular sets of home plans since Frank Lloyd Wright's 1938 design for LIFE.
Inspired by traditional American dwellings, Jacobsen's pavilion-style home featured a central, saltbox-like building connected to shorter symmetrical wings. It was made for a modern lifestyle, but echoed traditional vernacular architecture.
Built in 1999, this unique property offers 3-bedrooms and 2.5-baths and nearly 3000SqFt of living space. Situated high on a knoll with gorgeous views overlooking the lush greens of the Weekapaug Golf Club, and the beautiful blues of the Winnapaug Pond and the Atlantic Ocean. The house features a spacious cathedral ceiling Living Room, hardwoods throughout and a wall-of-glass that extends from the Master Bedroom, through the Living Room and into the Dining Room to take full advantage of the wonderful views. The elevated lot offers both stunning views and complete privacy.
Situated on 3/4 of an acre between Weekapaug and Watch Hill, with a stately stone-pillared drive and wonderful courtyard, the home impresses from first glance. With a full basement that is only partially finished with a game room and half-bath, you have enormous expansion possibilities!
