Exterior features

Inspired by contemporary rustic architecture of California like Sea Ranch and La Ventana at Big Sur, this home was designed by EHDD, world famous San Francisco Bay Area architects known for the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Exploratorium.
High ceilings, cozy but open spaces and custom details define this custom built Sugar Bowl home. The floor plan was designed to be both intimate for an individual or couple and also inviting to larger groups for holiday entertaining or family get-togethers. The master suite is on the top floor featuring a loft library for privacy and convenience. The master space includes a small closet for a mini fridge to have a tea/coffee closet along with a walk-in closet. The master bath has both a standing rain-style shower and a soaking tub as well as a small water closet and dual sinks.
The middle floor has an open concept kitchen and living room with a fully enclosed river porch-style dining room with floor to ceiling windows. Sliding doors create an alfresco feel for year-round livable outdoor space. At the far end of the dining room is a small deck that shares a fireplace with the living room and designed for a hot tub. Stairs at the end of the deck lead almost directly to the hiking/biking trail past the house. The guest room, featuring the highest ceiling in the cabin, is also on this floor with a built in mini-office/crafting space that can be hidden by a sliding barn door. The guest bath features a standing shower with Heath tile and hidden washer and dryer with built-in drying rack space. The thoughtfully designed space includes a mud room along with a drain centrally in the floor of the bathroom for rinsing off biking gear, hosing down dirty pups or drying out snowy boots.
The spacious bottom floor media room but was designed to be quickly converted to two bunk rooms and a hallway. The space also includes storage space with an aluminum paneled wall for bikes, paddle boards and outdoor toys. An additional fully plumbed but unfinished bathroom is a ready option if needed. The home includes an enclosed storage space with large steel doors to the outside, perfect for storing summer furniture. A ground floor space under the dining room offers an ideal outdoor living space to enjoy s’mores by a fire pit. This area also allows winter access to the back of the home.

The red and brown color scheme was inspired by the colors in the entry at Sugar Pine Point. The home was designed to be used year-round and offers durable finishes, outdoor spigots and many more thoughtful upgrades. The home is custom built with handpicked architectural detail throughout including the hickory walls and ceilings and the turquoise enameled Lacanche stove.
