60 Meeting Street
Charleston, South Carolina, United States

Description

A Charleston Landmark - Imagine, within the walls of the four-story mansion situated at the northeast corner of Tradd and Meeting Streets, a Pre-Revolutionary structure exists. William Ellis, a Charleston merchant, built that three-story structure in the mid eighteenth century. Bertram Kramer, a Charleston building contractor, who acquired the property in 1884, transformed the house in high Victorian taste. Imagine, a renovation by Mr. Kramer including the addition of a full fourth floor encased in a mansard roof with a conical peak. Enlarging every window, widening the front door, addition of a Moorish arch and iron balconies on the second floor as well as bay windows, dripstone cornices and a heavy bracketed house cornice. A roof garden added to the north wing described in Charleston Come Hell or High Water as a place where "delightful summer evenings were spent there catching the freshening breezes from both river and enjoying the serenity of its "heavenly" location." Imagine, the forethought so long ago to create such desirable, functional living space and amazing views of Meeting Street, the surrounding rooftops and steeples of the Old Walled City. A 360-degree panoramic vista rarely encountered South of Broad. Rooms of notable history and substantial scale bathed in amazing light. Rooms that function well for todays living... be that entertaining on a grand scale or creating a legacy family home. Imagine, a home that meets the needs of discriminating homeowners, steps from Historic District amenities, schools, churches, parks and the Battery: Imagine, Sixty Meeting Street, an exquisite home for all occasions.
