Land for Sale - Patagonia Ancient Natural Forest in Chiloé, Chile

Fundo Huandad

This property is located in Chilean Western Patagonia on Chiloe Island. Accessibility involves arriving at the Island airport, then an hour by car south to the port city of Quellón, followed by almost two hours by boat to the southern tip of the Island.

This magnificent land consists of 3500 hectares (8,648 acres) of native virgin Old Growth forest with low rolling hills, a lagoon and three streams, bordered by the Tantauco National Park, a grand national eco-tourism project advancing scientific discovery, conservation programs and environmental education.

The Fundo Huandad is tucked into the East side of the Park, and has about 10 miles of coastline along the calm waters of the San Pedro Channel and Guamblad Estuary. All areas of the property are no more than two miles from the coast.

This absolutely untouched temperate rain forest on Chiloe Island presents a great variety of dense vegetation in a primitive original state of conservation. The existence of this rain forest climate is rare in the world and only found in Oregon, Alaska, New Zealand, Tasmania, Argentina and Chile. It is characterized by the presence of a grand diversity of flora and fauna exclusive to this zone.

This area of extraordinary beauty, where beaches are bathed by calm waters from several, coves, bays, estuaries and wetlands, offers an exceptional chance to experience direct contact with nature as it has been since the beginning of time: to observe and study birds (water and terrestrial), native tree and flora species and wildlife in an element of absolute conservation.

In some areas it is possible to observe blue whales, dolphins, penguins and waterfowl that inhabit in the Channel, while kayaking, sailing, scuba diving or just watching from the beach. It is an ideal site for development of scientific investigative base camps or eco-tourism, immersed in this magnificent environment of untouched world millions of years old.

For scientific information, please see "Structural and environmental characterization of old-growth temperate rainforests of northern Chiloé Island, Chile: Regional and global relevance" in Forest Ecology and Management.

The property has registered water rights and is exempt from Chilean land tax.
