Spring Island

Spring is a magnificent eight acre outer island in Pointe au Baril, just minutes from the storied Ojibway Club.

The Main Cottage

The design of the ~1300 sq. ft. main structure is based on a much earlier cottage on the same site, circa late 1800's.

The same footprint and all the classic elements typical of an early Georgian Bay cottage have been recreated; a simple, low profile, hip roofed building, generous windows overlooking sweeping water views, spacious screened porch, and, carefully preserved, the original granite stone fireplace.

An understated exterior belies the perfectly proportioned, airy, spacious interior.

Throughout the cottage the lines, finishes and furnishings are pure, clean and simple, in deference to the surrounding dramatic views.

Light floods in through clerestory and floor to ceiling windows, and a bank of French doors which open onto the large screened porch.

The central floor to ceiling stone fireplace anchors the interior open plan space; living, kitchen, & breakfast areas.

The streamlined kitchen has concrete counters, built in cabinetry, a double deep sink, and a 4 burner Wolf gas range, fridge/freezer and dish washer.

The living room and kitchen flow into the 185 sq. ft. cedar screened porch which shelters the dining area and a comfortable conversation area, a perfect spot for entertaining at lunch, dinner and cocktails.

The porch opens onto a large deck spacious enough to accommodate an outdoor living room and a sunning area. The deck steps down to a sand beach and overlooks wonderful views to the west; water, whalebacks, and magnificent sunsets.

The 142.sq.ft.Master bedroom and a second, 185 sq.ft. double bunk bedroom share a 3 piece bath.

The second bedroom opens into the porch and onto the deck.

The Guest Cottage

The 550 sq. ft. guest cottage has two bedrooms, a large living room with wood burning stove and a three piece cedar lined bath with a walk in 'rain can' shower. Each bedroom is 120 sq. ft. and each has its own walk out to a small deck.

The Island:

Spring Island's most salient natural feature is its smooth flat granite, making the entire eight acres accessible, perfect for exploring, for brisk walks and jogs. One area, close to the main cottage, the rock is flat enough for basketball court. Pathways of natural stone, boardwalks and bridges, traverse the island through lush thickets of pine, cedar, deciduous shrubs and blueberry patches, leading to several small natural ponds, excellent swimming areas with swim platforms and a regulation diving board. Small inlets and bays make ideal launch points for water craft. The perfect natural harbour on the north side of the island offers the opportunity for extensive docking.

Spring Island is off the grid, accessing both solar and wind power.

While Spring is ideally situated for day trips to neighbouring picnic islands; the McCoys Limestones and the Minks and, some say, the most superb fresh water sailing and boating in North America. it is also close to the famed Ojibway Club, centre of the Pointe au Baril cottage community and only 20 minutes to mainland marinas in Pointe au Baril Station.

Spring is a 2.5 hour drive from Toronto's International Pearson Airport and the GTA via 400 series highways.
