James Balsterholt is a licensed professional real estate agent working throughout the Salt Lake Valley since 2003. He brings a deep, instinctual knowledge attributed to his familial history in real estate that began with his grandmother’s entrepreneurial spirit after his grandfather was KIA (killed in action) in 1968. Opening two real estate offices in Southern California, and eventually selling the business to her children after 25 successful years, deals in escrow and current market conditions were frequent topics of discussion at the dinner table with his mother and extended family. This unique advantage of being immersed in the world of real estate since childhood helped James to manage with confidence and success multiple arenas within the industry, from land acquisitions and development to vacation property investments and home sales.
Fresh out of college at the University of Utah, the pull of the family business led him away from a career in finance to create his own real estate legacy under the auspices of his mother, one of the top realtors in the Salt Lake market for 20 years. Over the last 16 years he has had the opportunity to assist numerous buyers and sellers, working closely with developers in land acquisitions and new construction sales, and has negotiated contracts ranging in price from $150,000 to over $29 million. Being entrusted with overseeing the sale or purchase of one of the most important investments in peoples’ lives, James is always at the ready to handle the needs of his clients, understanding that the buying and selling process can give rise to a rollercoaster of emotions. His ability to adapt and relate to many personalities and people from all walks of life has been instrumental in not only reducing the level of stress involved in real estate transactions for his clients, but has also led to long-lasting business relationships and friendships throughout his career.
Grateful to his family for the success he’s experienced in real estate, James also attributes some of that success to a strong focus and healthy discipline in everything he aspires to accomplish. Starting his day early, he gets to the gym, has breakfast with his wife, and then heads to the office all before most folks are even stirring. This rare quality has also provided him opportunities to participate in extreme competitive sports - from the first-place-team win in the 2012 Spartan obstacle race, a grueling 13-mile trail run with 30 obstacles, to qualifying for the Utah State’s Amateur Golf competition, beating out thousands of entrants. For the most part, James’ leisure time is spent teeing off on one of the many golf courses around the Salt Lake Valley with a group of friends, discovering the Valley’s obscure but amazing eateries, and listening to any and all classic Led Zeppelin cuts he can find.
