Buckner was born and raised in Beaumont, TX, where he was instilled with a love of the outdoors at an early age. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004, Buckner cancelled his plans to attend law school and instead moved to Vail. While he originally intended to stay for only one ski season, those plans quickly changed and he soon began a career as a real estate appraiser. He has been appraising in Eagle, Pitkin, and Garfield counties since early 2005. Aside from his broker's license, Buckner still holds the title of Certified Residential Appraiser and runs his own appraisal company, Matthews Appraisals, LLC. With his appraisal background, Buckner provides a different perspective than many other brokers, offering a more in-depth approach to value. He has detailed market knowledge and extensive experience with all types of residential properties and all neighborhoods stretching from Vail to Aspen. Buckner specializes in luxury properties in these resort areas, and for the last 5+ years has worked almost exclusively as the preferred appraiser on assignments for US Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management. This has afforded him the rare opportunity to gain invaluable experience with some of the most unique properties in the entire state, including homes that have sold for over $35 million and homes that have cost over $3,000/sf to build. This appraisal experience has also provided Buckner with a strong background not only in "white glove" customer service, but also in the aspects of contract review, market trends, construction costs, site valuation, and in analyzing the overall best use of a property. Buckner has direct, first-hand experience with acreage properties, unique view sites, river frontage, ski-in/ski-out locations, golf communities, proposed construction and other unique properties. Buckner is constantly excited about real estate, and is always striving to make it both a professional and enjoyable experience. In the rare moments when he is not working, Buckner loves traveling, snowboarding, and hiking. He responds to both Buck or Buckner, and lives in Edwards with his wife Kathryn and their cat, Tuna. He also frequently spends time in Aspen and is a member of the Aspen Board of Realtors.
