The Township has a total area of 32.3 square miles, of which 26.2 square miles is land and 6 square miles is water.
For most of its early history, Brick was a fishing and agricultural center. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the New Jersey Shore was being developed as a resort area. The main economy shifted from agricultural to commercial activities. The township was given its name by Joseph W. Brick, former owner of iron works.
