MADISON, NJ - Mara Kahn, Realtor®, with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate|Wine Country Group, has earned the coveted “Community Involvement Award” for her outstanding community service activities. The national award is given to deserving agents annually by Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate which is headquartered in Madison, New Jersey.
Randy Coffman and Gerrett Snedaker, partners in BHGRE|WCG, recognized Mara with the award at their annual Agent Recognition luncheon. Snedaker said “Mara is one of a handful of agents across the country to receive this prestigious award. We congratulate her on this meaningful and well-earned recognition.”
As a result of her community-based efforts, Coffman and Snedaker named Kahn the Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate|Wine Country Group “Ambassador of Community Service.” As such, she will work with them on community service activities and charitable efforts for all five of the company’s real estate offices.
Quoting from the award nomination letter, Snedaker said:
“Mara did many things this year that had an impact on thousands of children and families in our community. Last fall’s devastating wildfires fires afforded Mara the opportunity to organize, in partnership with Sonoma Valley Rotary, the creation and distribution of over 200 "Kitchens in a Box" for Sonoma Valley families whose homes were lost. As a realtor she knew that the kitchen is the heart of the home and the replacing kitchen items was vital to people’s well-being. Each kit had a value of approximately $750.00 - so she helped distribute approximately $150,000 in kitchen supplies to folks who had lost everything.”

4 Paws (www.4pawscenter.org) - Mara and her chocolate lab "Fenway Bark" have been extensively trained by this non-profit organization. "4 Paws" mission is "Improving the lives of pets and people through canine-assisted literacy and therapy teams, wellness and learning programs.” Weekly through the school year, Mara and Fenway assist a classroom of 22 El Verano Elementary 3rd graders with their reading development. In the summer, they participate in the Summer Reading Academy. Mara is even using her real estate license to help the organization identify a new training campus.
Mara is a founding and active member of "Impact 100 Sonoma" - a women's charitable giving organization now in its 10th year that raises and donates over $300,000 that is distributed each year to non-profit organizations in the Sonoma Valley.
Synagogue activities - Mara is active throughout the year with Congregation Shir Shalom, her synagogue here in Sonoma. She served on the Board of Directors for six straight years. Mara is active in the Synagogue's fundraising and is the first person called upon when it’s time to cook for an event.
The Sonoma Valley Holiday Program - Mara served as co-chair for two years and has arranged for us to "Adopt a Family" as we bought holiday gifts for a local family of five.
Sonoma Greens Board of Directors – Mara has served on the homeowner’s association of her 150-unit townhome development for four plus years and is in her third year as Board president.
She is active in Sonoma Valley Rotary serving as Chair of Special Projects. She has contributed significant volunteer time to the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art's major fundraiser. Mara also made a number of contributions to our "New Story" home drive and helped us reach our $6,000 goal.
