Orchid Island LogoORCHID ISLAND, FL - With a history of giving to local charities, Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club held their 16th Annual 5K Walk/Run on April 4. Each year the proceeds from the event benefit a local charity, which is determined earlier in the year by the Club's Fitness & Wellness Committee. The charity selected this year was the Indian River County Recreation Department. Due to the generosity of 57 sponsorships from Orchid Island Club Members, and close to 75 participants, $11,000 was raised. These funds will be used to help with the Recreation Department’s efforts to support recreational programs and facilities for County residents and visitors of all age groups. “Our members at Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club are always looking for opportunities to give back to the local community. We are delighted this year to partner with the Indian River County Recreation Department. Proceeds from our 16th Annual 5K Walk/Run fundraiser will be contributed to its Scholarship Fund, which provides financial support so no child is turned down from participating in a recreational activity for monetary reasons," shared Bruce Morrison, Orchid Island Board of Governors Tennis & Fitness Committee Chair.
