Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate LogoSEATTLE, WA – Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate Chairman John Brian Losh and President Meghan Barry recently joined more than 175 industry leaders, including those from the National Association of Realtors, Zillow Group, Realogy, leading brokerage firms, technology startups and regional associations at Disconnect in the Desert. The invite-only event was held March 26th through the 28th at the Parker Palm Springs featuring several inspiring speakers and activities focused on leadership in the real estate industry.

The event began with a networking reception, then attendees enjoyed keynote speaker Patty McCord, the former Chief Talent Officer for Netflix. She addressed how a focus on the consumer can allow everything else in a business to fall into place, encouraging brokerages with one big piece of actionable advice: “Go back and look at every single thing you’re doing in your business and ask, ‘Why?' If your answer is ‘this is the way we’ve always done it,’ then you’ve got work to do.”

The following morning, attendees divided into group to tackle various issues in discussion oriented activities including hiking in the desert and croquet at the Parker, among others. President Barry participated in a horseback ride though the valley with Trulia Co-Founder Pete Flint who guided a discussion on ‘How Great Leaders are Made.’ John Brian Losh accompanied others in a museum tour with Fred and Joanne Wilson, founders of Union Square Ventures, in which they examined the comparison between disruptive art and disruptive companies. The afternoon featured additional forums like ‘Thriving in a World of Data,’ ‘Baking Service into your Enterprise’ and ‘Raising the Industry’s Quality Bar.’ The evening closed with a dinner and an uplifting presentation by disruptors who have succeeded in the most unexpected ways; followed by a chic soiree at Mister Parker’s, a French-inspired cocktail lounge at the hotel.

On the final day, attendees deliberated over ideas put forth throughout the conference and crafted a real estate leadership manifesto documenting a set of principles meant to ignite change in the industry. Unofficially dubbed the Parker Principles, the manifesto outlines 12 values that consider the consumer above all, consequently improving real estate transaction efficiency. The Parker Principles were published on Inman News, as well as several other media outlets, in hope to foster new standards for competency and ethics in real estate.
