Michael Saunders Elected RELO Board of Directors Chairman

A national organization of independent residential real estate firms, RELO, has elected Michael Saunders as its board of directors chairman.

The move came at the organization's national annual conference in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Saunders is president/founder of Michael Saunders & Co., one of the largest real estate companies in the Bay area and based in Sarasota. It ranked No. 52 nationally in sales volume for 2004, with more than $2.5 billion in sales, the RELO release said.

RELO, based in Chicago, is a large national network of independent real estate firms producing more than $380 billion in annual home sales, a release. RELO has 650 members representing 4,700 offices and 110,000 associates across the country and in 20 countries.

Saunders' firm employs more than 400 sales associates and 180 staff members in 17 offices from Anna Maria Island to Boca Grande.

Saunders established her company in 1976 and has since taken a leadership position in the national luxury and waterfront homes market, selling more than 450 properties valued at $1 million or more annually, the release said.

She will serve as RELO's chairman for the next two years. She succeeded Ronald J. Peltier, president and chief executive officer of both HomeServices and Edina (Minn.) Realty, who held that post for the past three years.
