ORCHID, FL – On Sunday, January 28th, 2018 the Orchid Island Outreach Committee, comprised of Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club Members, held its 17th Annual Cocktail Party to thank Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club Members for their contributions to the Orchid Outreach Scholarship Fund and to honor the recipients.
Orchid Outreach provides educational scholarships annually. The Orchid Outreach Scholarships are given to First Responders or their family members, Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club employees or their family members, as well as students residing in Indian River County. This year’s scholars who received educational scholarships from the Indian River State College Foundation are Grace Waage, Mariely Castillo and Nicole Martz. The scholars who received educational scholarships from the Scholarship Foundation of Indian River Country are Ashley Scott, attending the University of South Florida, Mary Brooks, attending the University of Central Florida and Allison Fahey, attending Stetson University. All three of the latter are children of First Responders.
The celebration was held at the magnificent oceanfront home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lower. Tracy Lamport, Orchid Outreach Chairman, and her hard-working Committee created and served wonderful, beautifully presented hors d'oeuvres while several of their husbands were bartenders serving cocktails. All remaining expenses were covered by the Committee's dues.
One hundred percent of the funds donated are used for educational scholarships and to date, Orchid has presented 47 scholarships to deserving students. "Orchid has a very unique situation with its employees and their families," said Lamport. "When you help someone go through college, and you see them or their family members on a daily basis, you get personally involved with their lives. It is the most rewarding thing I do. I love knowing that they are doing so well and that we have had some part in that."
