On October 11th, 2017, Windermere Homes & Estates declared its annual Community Service Day, putting together a team of agents and staff to pool efforts and volunteer time for a greater cause.

1509405049This year, Windermere decided to assist Safehouse of the Desert. Safehouse is a residential environment dedicated to children between the ages of 11-17 years old, who fall victim to physical and emotional abuse. The facility shelters the children from perpetrators and offers education, therapy, artistic expression, coupled with training for future jobs, skills and coaching in being responsible and making wise choices.

“We, at Windermere Homes and Estates of the greater Palm Springs area recognize that the youth of today represents the future adults of tomorrow. Asking ourselves what we would want that future to look like, we realized that by contributing to this organization we were impacting that future and contributing to the welfare of all children throughout the world by serving as an example of what reaching out to others can accomplish. In a world that is often covered in darkness we wanted to serve as a beacon for others and to contribute to the future generations that will be here long after we have passed.”

After months of collecting items to donate, Windermere Homes & Estates closed its local offices to spend the day at Safehouse of the Desert.

With a hard day’s work, the Windermere team was able to clean up the facility, landscape the grounds, organize several storage rooms, plant fresh flowers and vegetables and power wash the building, stairways and walkways. Carpet cleaning was also provided with help from Smith’s Carpet Tile & Upholstery Cleaning. Windermere agents donated $5,000 from their commissions direct to Safehouse of the Desert, while also contributing over $3,000 worth of donation items. Breakfast and lunch were also provided for all with help from: McDonalds in Thousand Palms, Jensen’s Palm Desert and Homestreet Bank.

Brian Gooding, owner of Windermere Homes & Estates stated, “We are so proud to serve in the very same communities we provide business. It helps us to remember our beginnings and to always stay grounded by our core beliefs. We are so grateful for where we are, but most of all, for the way we’ve always been.”
