1490292415DENVER, CO – Jim Theye, Managing Broker and co-founder of Kentwood City Properties, has been honored with the Compassionate Neighbor Award from the Lower Downtown Neighborhood Association (LoDoNA).  Theye was recognized for his work and contributions to LoDoNA, a city-registered neighborhood organization representing residents of Lower Downtown and the Central Platte Valley since 1988.  The volunteer organization is committed to preserving and enhancing the quality of life in Lower Downtown and the Central Platte Valley through community-building, philanthropy, advocacy, and partnership.

“I am honored and humbled to receive the Compassionate Neighbor Award from the Lower Downtown Neighborhood Association,” said Theye.  “LoDo became the first neighborhood in the country to be recognized as a Compassionate Neighborhood.  Being recognized for our work over the years for LoDoNA is truly special, particularly for our contributions to the Barth Hotel, an assisted living residence that provides support and assistance to seniors and older adults with disabilities who enjoy the bustle and activity of the city.  Kentwood City Properties will continue to support the association and the Barth Hotel in the years ahead.”

The Barth Hotel, which is located a block away from Kentwood City Properties, is an historic designated landmark that promotes personal independence and choice with a sense of security and well-being.  The Barth’s staff does the work and residents enjoy living.  The Barth Hotel is dedicated to providing quality programs and services, including an electronic medication system that increases med-pass accuracy and positive results for residents.

The Compassionate Communities program is not a certificate program that offers a seal of approval, nor does it subscribe to a single definition of a Compassionate Community.  Instead, the charter invites communities of all sizes to bring compassion to life in practical, specific ways through compassionate-driven actions.  In a Compassionate Community, the needs of all inhabitants are recognized and met, and the well-being of the entire community is a priority.  Charter for Compassion International provides an umbrella for people to engage in collaborative partnerships worldwide.

The Denver City Council proclaimed Denver as a Compassionate City in November 2016.  In 2000, Theye volunteered for the annual Christmas program for the Barth Hotel as a way of giving back to the LoDo neighborhood.  He helped support the hotel’s holiday dinner and Birthday Club by soliciting donations from local residents to purchase clothing and other items for Barth residents.  LoDo Cares evolved out of these programs, and Theye is proud of the work that Kentwood City Properties and others have contributed to further the sense of compassion in LoDo.

LoDo Cares is a philanthropic partnership between LoDoNA and the LoDo District, Inc. that connects and improves the community by working to enhance the experience of those who live, work, and play in LoDo and nearby communities.  LoDo Cares also includes a group of volunteers who serve the Barth Hotel residents.

“I am honored to be in the company of previous award winners and I’m committed to continuing the legacy of compassion in LoDo and at the Barth Hotel,” said Theye.
