1467741052DENVER, CO - On May 26th, 2016 LIV Sotheby’s International Realty broker, Rob Wagner, sold 19 Elm Avenue, The Maytag Mansion, in Colorado Springs, for $4,000,000. This is the highest priced home sold in recent history in Colorado Springs.  A separate Bill of Sale for furniture/furnishings of $300,000 was sold in addition to the $4M sale.

“This is the highest sale of a single family home in Colorado Springs, including The Broadmoor Community for over 10 years,” said LIV Sotheby’s International Realty broker, Robert Wagner.

Built in 1928 for Freida Maytag, daughter of Frederick Maytag, founder of The Maytag Appliance Company, the sale was the highest in the Broadmoor Community in the last 10 years. The manor was designed by Jules Benois Benedict of Denver (1879-1948), one of Denver’s most flamboyant architectural personalities. Spencer Penrose, founder of The Broadmoor, used the home to host the famous and still-active “cooking club”. Additionally, Mr. Penrose and General Eisenhower used to play cards in the residence’s Drawing Room.

The residence is of true Italian Renaissance style on 2.39 acres, and over 12,000 sq. ft. of finished living space. The estate was one of the first built in the Broadmoor Community. The residence’s 20th century architecture and craftsmanship can’t be duplicated in today’s construction world. The home’s storied past reflects an era of gracious living yet still maintains the desired elements of today’s modern life styles.
