Historic Downtown Governor’s Inn Sells for $5.3 Million by Handsome Properties

1450721747CHARLESTON, SC - Handsome Properties, the Charleston based luxury real estate brokerage, represented the buyer in the 5.3 million dollar sale of The Governor’s House Inn at 117 Broad Street that closed Friday, December 4, 2015.  A company formed by a Mount Pleasant attorney bought the inn under the name Governor’s House Inn LCC, according to Charleston County property records.

Donna Seward of Handsome Properties, represented the buyer, who plans to make subtle improvements to the historic home. “My clients came to me looking to invest in a downtown Inn,” Seward said, “One that they could take great pride of ownership in - finding the appropriate historical property was a challenge, but well worth the search!”

Originally constructed in 1760 as a traditional Georgian double house, the home was built on the site of a former Charleston Orange Garden and resides just outside the original walled city of Charles Towne on Broad Street, between Orange and Legare Streets. Formerly the home of Edward Rutledge, a South Carolina governor and signer of the Declaration of Independence, the property has operated as a bed-and-breakfast since the late 1990s. The inn gained recognition as a National Historic Landmark in the early 1970s, designated by the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Handsome Properties, Inc., is much like the notable estates it is proud to represent.
