1449265994DENVER, CO – A beautifully restored historic residence in Denver’s Montclair neighborhood at 770 Olive Street near the landmark Richtoffen Castle has been sold for very close to its listed price of $2,825,000.  Listed exclusively by Pat Wall of Kentwood Real Estate Cherry Creek, the beautifully restored home includes a carriage house with an upper level apartment and a homesite encompassing 39,600 square feet.  The closing of the sale on November 30, 2015, assures that the historic home will be preserved for posterity.

“The previous owners had loved the home for 40 years and I was looking for that special buyer who wanted a ‘forever home’ that reflects Denver’s colorful history in one of the city’s most desirable neighborhoods,” said Wall.  “The stunning and absolutely gorgeous mansion was painstakingly restored by Larry Behrendt of Redcorp over a two-year period.  Larry took the 8,000-square-foot home to a 2015 level with high tech security, lighting and music controls, new mechanicals, and much more.  In an era when replacing seems more important than restoring, this sale is a win/win for Denver and the neighborhood.”

The three-story home is the second largest property in Montclair.  The buyer was provided with credits to complete the renovation of the 1,500 square foot apartment spanning the entire second floor of the carriage house, which was once the building’s hay loft.  The mansion showcases 26 sets of French doors on the main level and intricate molding and leaded glass details that made it a treasure that reflected the country club style of Jacques Benedict, a prominent Denver architect.  A fire caused the original Victorian residence to burn, after which Benedict designed the remodel in 1917 with a French Chateau façade.  The fire was caused by a contraption called the “Denver Airship” which exploded on the north lawn, sending its inventor 40 feet into the air.

The Montclair mansion was nominated for the 2015 Mayors Design Award in the preservation category.  The home includes a four-car garage, sumptuous baths, a solarium, and grounds large enough for a swimming pool, sports playing fields and more.
