1447958979ROWAYTON, CT - William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty announced today that the firm’s Rowayton brokerage will be hosting an artist reception as part of the “Sundays at Sotheby’s” series, a monthly program in which the office welcomes new local art to display in its office. The reception is typically held on the first Sunday of each month. Local artist and Darien native Mary Morant will introduce her work on Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 4-6 PM.

Morant is a designer and painter with more than 25 years of experience in visual arts. Upon receiving her BFA from the University of Georgia, she began her career designing restaurant logos in Aspen, Colorado, later moving on to New York City, where she served as an art director on the IBM account. Morant simultaneously pursued her passion for painting, attending night classes at the Art Student’s League in the city. Many of Morant’s influences come from her time in Europe, where Morant spent six years studying painting at the Louvre Museum in Paris, as well as in The Hague in Holland under the guidance of Dutch portrait painter Marike Bok. Morant returned to the states in 2001, and continues to paint locally in her Darien, Conn. studio. Her work, which is inspired by living near the water and all of the various places that she has lived, can be found throughout Fairfield County in several galleries, offices and homes, as well as in private collections in Georgia, Montana, New York, France, Switzerland and Holland.

During the November 29th “Sundays at Sotheby’s” artist reception, the Rowayton office will welcome some of Morant’s latest paintings to its walls, displaying them throughout the entire month. Wine, hot chocolate and hors d'oeuvres will be served in a casual setting with opportunities to talk with Morant, and discuss her work. All events of the evening are open to the public, and have been coordinated on the same night as the town’s annual “Light Up Rowayton” festivities.

“We held an artist reception last year on the same night as Rowayton’s yearly holiday season celebration, and as a result, captured the hundreds of people who came into town to see the lights and caroling,” said Darien agent Molly Crosland, who spearheads much of the brokerage’s artist series. “We expect to draw a big and lively crowd again, which is wonderful considering the wonder of Mary’s work. I look forward to displaying yet another amazing local artist’s masterpieces on our office walls, and can’t wait to share her talent with the community.”
