1445537484CUPERTINO, CA - On September 17th, the Intero Foundation awarded the final round of quarterly grants this year. Since 2002, the Foundation (created by the founders of Intero Real Estate Services, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate) has been working diligently to give back to Silicon Valley by raising funds for various local non-profits that help children in the community. Through the hard work and generosity of Intero employees, agents, and fundraising events, the Foundation has been able to sustain itself and give back to the community.

Each quarter, the Foundation presents grants to a variety of generous and caring non-profits in the communities surrounding Intero. With misty eyes, the attendees exited the conference room with final decisions made, already thinking about the next round of grants.

For this year’s fourth quarter grants, the Foundation decided to donate to non-profits in Gilroy, Hollister, Morgan Hill, and Silver Creek. With unanimous votes, a grand total of $64,000 was distributed to the following organizations:

School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County: A first time Intero Foundation grant recipient, this non-profit provides high quality healthcare to low-income and uninsured children. They’ve been diligently serving the community for 28 years. A grant of $8,000 will be used to cover the costs of vaccinations and physical examinations for 145 children.

Rebekah Children’s Services: RCS is dedicated to helping local children with social, emotional, and physical health problems. While they serve the community with a variety of programs, the $8,000 donated this quarter will go toward their constantly adapting dynamic special education curriculum. The money will be spent on educational software and other classroom materials.

CASA of San Benito (Court Appointed Special Advocates): CASA trains and provides advocates to uphold the needs and rights of abused and neglected children in the Juvenile Dependency System (foster care). The $5,000 donated should help CASA provide advocates to children on their waitlist for services.

Emmaus House: Emmaus House, another first time Intero Foundation grant recipient, provides shelter and assistance to women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The $4,000 donated will go specifically to support their My Child My Joy program, which provides counseling sessions to child and mother abuse victims.

Sun Street Center: Sun Street Center is dedicated to preventing and treating alcoholism in mothers and families, regardless of income level. Their six bed facility keeps mothers in residential treatment, along with their children. Also a first time Intero Foundation grant recipient, this non-profit received $4,000 to help furnish children’s rooms and provide daycare supplies.

One Step Closer: This unique non-profit organization specializes in an adaptive horseback riding program for children with special needs. The program strives to help these children improve their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development. Entirely run by volunteers (and one trainer) on land donated by the director of the organization, One Step Closer received $6,000 to help replace supplies and take care of the resident horses.

Autism Fun Bay Area: Another first time Intero Foundation grant recipient, this entirely volunteer run non-profit and their “Azure” program helps expose autistic children to jazz, classical music, and more through live performances. Their $6,000 grant will help pay for future events filled with performances and activities catered to autistic children in the community.

Edward Boss Prado Foundation – Cecilia’s Closet: This wonderful non-profit provides clothing to low income students for job interviews, as well as groceries and prom dresses to those in need. Cecilia’s Closet received their first Intero Foundation grant of $4,000 to help build a storage shed.

Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen: Loaves & Fishes, a hot meal program, serves food to over 25,000 families across three locations. Their first Intero Foundation grant of $5,500 will provide approximately 2,400 hot, nutritious meals to those in need.

Advent Group Ministries: Another first time Intero Foundation grant recipient, Advent Group Ministries provides mental and physical health services to addicted and emotionally troubled youth. A grant of $5,500 will cover the costs of medical care for ten people.

Collaborative Community Program: Last but certainly not least, this first time Intero Foundation recipient mentors children in the areas of creativity, love of learning, and critical thinking. They received a $5,000 grant to help fund several project based programs in downtown San Jose for the upcoming school year.

The $64,000 of grants this quarter brings our total donation amount for this year (so far) to $200,500.
