1445536434DENVER, CO – Kara Lorenzen, a leading Broker Associate with Kentwood Real Estate DTC, recently joined several of her courageous colleagues to rappel down 29 stores at Denver Energy Towers to raise money for the Cancer League of Colorado.  To qualify for the event, each participate had to raise a minimum of $1,000 for Colorado based cancer research, with Lorenzen raising a total of $3,050.  The thrilling “Over the Edge” event was held on September 18, 2015.

“I was motivated to participate in the Over the Edge event for a few different reasons,” said Lorenzen.  “My family has a history of cancer, and unfortunately, I have seen many friends and families afflicted by the disease.  If there is an end to the pain and suffering, I would do anything to contribute.  Another reason is fear and my desire to face my fear of heights.  So being 26 years old and healthy, I decided to rappel down 29 stories, which is small potatoes compared to fighting cancer.1445536392

“A third reason to participate is to be with a few colleagues from Kentwood Real Estate,” Lorenzen continued.  “We all had matching outfits and we really had a blast being together.  I am very thankful for all the brokers and support staff at Kentwood.  As the youngest broker in the office, I have received nothing but support and friendship since my very first day on the job.”

Lorenzen registered for Over the Edge less than 24 hours before the event just in case “I psyched myself out.”  She said the hardest part was standing on the edge of the building just before sitting down in the harness.

“My legs were completely pudding,” said Lorenzen.  “Once I started though, it was a thrill.  It was truly a perfect Colorado day, and the view was unbeatable.  All the volunteers were incredible.”

Kara works with her mother, Gina Lorenzen, at Kentwood Real Estate DTC.  She can be reached at 303.518.4258, email karalorenzen@gmail.com.  The other Kentwood participants were Helena Buckley, Karen Brinckerhoff, Michele Ciardullo, Georgia Gallagher, Steven Kruse, Brendan Moran, and Lea VanSchaack of Kentwood Real Estate DTC and Kentwood City Properties.

An exclusive event for the Cancer League of Colorado, Over the Edge gives participants a life-changing opportunity to rappel 29 stories while raising money for cancer research.  Unique to non-profits, Cancer League of Colorado has no paid staff and no offices.  All operating expenses are covered by membership dues and the league’s 400-plus volunteer staff.  Every dollar raised through fundraisers and donations goes directly to cancer research and cancer patient services in Colorado.  For more information, please visit www.cancerleague.org.
