1444071923DENVER, CO - On October 1, 2015, an evening of dance and celebration of breast cancer awareness took place at the third annual Colorado, Dancing With The Survivors, event at the BAC Appliance Center, in Englewood, CO. The event, which was co-chaired by LIV Sotheby’s International Realty brokers Richard and Elaine Swomley, celebrates breast cancer survivors who thrive in their recovery and make a difference in the lives of other cancer patients.

“We are quite excited about the outcome of Dancing With The Survivors,” said LIV Sotheby’s International Realty broker, Richard Swomley. “In order to help save homes and pay necessary expenses during the devastating period of breast cancer treatment, people from all walks of life and many dedicated business sponsors joined the Colorado Presenting Sponsor, LIV Sotheby’s International Realty, to present a special evening of celebration.”

This year, five women from Denver performed ballroom style dances with dance professionals from the Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Westminster and Parker, Colorado, to benefit The Pink Fund, a nonprofit organization that covers non-medical, cost-of-living, expenses such as health insurance premiums, housing, transportation and utilities, while breast cancer patients undergo treatment.

“Everyone is aware of breast cancer,” says Molly MacDonald, breast cancer survivor, founder and CEO of The Pink Fund. “What they aren’t aware of is the side effect of financial toxicity. While fighting for their lives, many breast cancer patients in active treatment lose their livelihoods. Unable to work, patients often face catastrophic financial losses. Some may even stop treatment and return to work in order to pay basic bills.”

Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Westminster and Parker, donated eight private dance lessons to each breast cancer surviving participant: Terri Gaertner, Jody Louderback, Jo Ann Washburn, Korrin Seavey, and Jodi Thompson. At the October 1 event, all five survivors showcased the ballroom dances they’d been practicing to benefit The Pink Fund. The event was co-hosted by event planner and cancer survivor, Jo Ann Washburn, and emceed by Denise Plante, Murphy Houston, and KOSI 101 FM.

Funds raised at this event are restricted for breast cancer patients seeking financial assistance in Colorado only, based on The Pink Fund’s “money raised in Colorado, stays in Colorado” policy.

MacDonald says, “Treatment is just the beginning of the disease, with effects that can linger for years, including body image issues and loss of intimacy. Dancing can play an important role in the life of survivors, helping them and their partners reclaim some of that intimacy, and helping take their minds off their health issues.”

LIV Sotheby’s International Realty is a proud supporter of The Pink Fund and the lead sponsor of Colorado’s Dancing With The Survivors. For more information on The Pink Fund, please visit www.ThePinkFund.org.
