1438966368NEWPORT BEACH, CA - An oceanfront Irvine Cove house bought for $23 million is believed to be the priciest home sale in Orange County so far this year.

The house was owned by Bruce Del Mar, the co-developer of the Holter Monitor, a widely used portable device for monitoring heart activity. He died in 2014 at the age of 100.

Built in 1976 and one of just five homes directly above the sand in the guard-gated Laguna Beach community, the 5,500-square-foot Spanish-Hacienda-style residence with five bedrooms boasted a private path to the sand.

The home was for sale in March at $29.5 million. It sold on May 29 for $23 million, according to public records. The sale price was not recorded in the Multiple Listing Service.

Natalie Raney, Steve High and Evan Corkett of Villa Real Estate were the listing agents. High and Corkett represented the buyer.

Del Mar, along with Norman “Jeff” Holter, developed the Holter Monitor in the mid-1960s. Del Mar’s company was the first to commercially produce the device.
