DENVER, CO – As the holidays simmer, imagine buying, wrapping, stuffing and giving, for not just one family, but two. The brokers of LIV Sotheby’s International Realty (LSIR) did just that, and their generosity lives into the New Year with the overwhelming support generated for local 5 point, Denver-based charity, Heart and Hand.
An after school program that provides tutoring, sports programs, art therapy, emotional support, meals, weekend bags of food, summer camp programs, and necessities like: clothes, warm coats, boots, gloves, and hats to the children in the program, Heart and Hand is not your average giving organization.
“Over the years Heart and Hand has grown from supporting just a few families to close to one hundred in the Denver 5 Points Neighborhood,” said LSIR broker, Emily Henderson. ”I firmly believe the Heart and Hand Center is making a difference in the lives of local at-risk Denver youth. I have supported the organization since day one.”
LIV Sotheby’s International Realty agents have supported the Christmas Family Adoption Program for the Heart and Hand Center for four years. Each participating agent is given a family profile with a "needs" and "wants" list of gifts for each member of the family. Adopting a family means that the participating agent buys gifts, wraps them, provides a gift certificate to a grocery store so the family can buy a holiday meal, and gets it all done and to the pickup location during what tends to be a fairly busy time of year.
“It is a big commitment, and I am continually impressed by the generosity of our LSIR family,” said Henderson. “The day of pick up is so fun. The LSIR offices are literally overflowing with gifts and the Heart and Hand Center literally looks like a Christmas explosion!”
LSIR broker, Emily Henderson, championed the event which sponsored over three dozen families this holiday. The organization not only supports children, but also adults. The Heart and Hand program assists parents/guardians in locating emergency housing, pay utility bills when unable to do so, and offers career workshops and computers for parents to use for employment.
To make Heart and Hand a success, work begins in October. Volunteers begin the search for people to ‘adopt’ families for the holiday season, and then pair those volunteers with a Heart and Hand family in need.
“The emotional support the center provides the kids and family is indispensable,” said Henderson. “And I am confident it will continue in the New Year.”
