1418762087CUPERTINO, CA – Giving back is the name of the game this month for the Intero Foundation. The organization, started in 2002 by the leaders of Intero Real Estate Services, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate and wholly owned subsidiary of HomeServices of America, Inc., has not only granted $20,000 to organizations around the bay area this month, but also taken advantage of multiple giving opportunities throughout their communities.

Throughout the year, Intero makes an effort to give back to the community by giving quarterly grants to organizations that support kids in the community. In fact, since its inception, the Foundation has collected over $3 million through agent/employee contributions and fundraising events. This amount includes an endowment of more than $775,000.

This is the second year the foundation has given holiday grants. The total amount distributed to four very deserving organizations is almost double last years at $20,000. This donation was split amongst the following organizations:

14187624401.) Adopt An Angel – Provides gifts to children in group homes, shelters, foster homes, and low-income households. The Intero Los Gatos office presented $5,000 for holiday gifts.

2.) Chamberlain’s Children Center - Empowers at-risk children in a home-like environment to heal from past trauma, discover their strengths, and develop the skills they need to achieve life-long success. The Intero Hollister office presented $4,000 to help fund Christmas activities including a shopping trip to Kohls with the kids.

3.) Reaching Out – Provides food basic necessities and job training to low-income, disadvantaged and homeless children and adults in Santa Clara County. The Intero Morgan Hill office presented $5,000 to go towards purchasing toys for the “I Love Morgan Hill” Food & Toy Giveaway.

4.) Scholastic Interest Group - Helps at risk young men residing in low income communities of San Francisco reach their full potential by offering a variety of programs that promote the importance of staying in school, the value of higher education, and the critical need of personal character development. Granted $6,000 to go towards the purchase of a van so the group can participate in educational “field trips."

In addition to these generous monetary donations, Intero agents, employees, friends and family have been given the opportunity to provide direct contributions through participation in other holiday giving activities including bowling, a bike build, warm coat drive, toy drive and fundraising night.

On December 3rd, the Intero San Mateo office hosted a bowling night raising $2,800 benefiting the Foundation.

The annual Big Bike Build happened on Saturday, December 6th and directly supported Turning Wheels For Kids, an organization the Intero Foundation supported with a grant of $10,000 in 2013. Intero had a team of eleven helping to build bikes along with thousands of volunteers for across the bay area. The annual event brings people together from all over the San Francisco Bay Area to build bikes to be given to underprivileged kids during the holidays.

Intero is also encouraging agents, employees and clients to bring in items for two large holiday collections. The first drive, managed by Kim Connor of Intero’s Saratoga office is for winter coats through One Warm Coat. Last year this drive brought in over 4,000 coats. The second, managed by the Intero San Carlos office, is a Holiday Toy Drive to support the St. Anthony’s Padua Dining Room.

This holiday generosity is only a glimpse into the types of contributions the Intero Foundation is capable of. With the support of a foundation committee, the organization has been known to fundraise through everything from cookbook sales, to car shows, to food truck meet ups.  Giving back is definitely on their mind 365 days a year.

The Intero Foundation is always seeking to expand the culture of giving. To apply for a grant for your non-profit organization, follow the grant application guidelines here.
