Rob Thomson, Waterfront Properties and Club Communities Inc. ownerDistinction: Appointed to Board of Regents Executive Committee for Who's Who in Luxury Real EstatePlace of business: Jupiter.Recent accomplishments: As owner of Waterfront Properties and Club Communities Inc., it's not unusual for Rob Thomson to rub elbows with the rich and famous.The Jupiter Realtor has, for example, worked with or sold homes to people like rocker Bon Jovi, drummer Tico Torres, golfing legends Greg Norman and Lee Trevino, Philadelphia Phillies star Mike Schmidt and pop singer Celine Dion.The list goes on and on, especially when it comes to sports celebrities.Thomson often meets them through golf tournaments as part of his charitable work.Thomson was recently appointed to the inaugural Board of Regents Executive Committee for Who's Who in Luxury Real Estate.The committee consists of 10 real estate brokers from around the United States, leaders in their respective luxury real estate markets.The board of regents, which is the exclusive affiliation of luxury brokers and the governing body of the Luxury Real Estate network, is composed of 78 brokerage firms representing 425 offices from around the world.Thomson, who was born in Buffalo but moved to Jupiter when he was 2 weeks old, founded Waterfront Properties with his mother, Joan Thomson.His home in Admiral's Cove is just 300 feet from his office.Sales at the high-end waterfront community have done well, despite sluggish performance elsewhere."We've sold more houses since Jan. 1 this year than in any one year in the last 10 years," he said. "The luxury market is different. My team is doing extremely well. ... Last year was a record year, and we've passed it."A home is a very special thing to people," he continued, "and finding something that gives (home buyers) happiness is very fulfilling."Also gratifying to Thomson is the work he does with his Charities for Children.For the past five years, he and his family have delivered Christmas presents collected by the charity to underprivileged children throughout Palm Beach County.If Charities for Children doesn't receive enough donations, they just buy them for whomever is requesting them, Thomson said.The charity's main thrust comes around Christmas, but the good deeds continue all year long."We give out 20,000 to 30,000 toys a year, and Easter baskets," Thomson said.When a child has other needs during the year, he added, "we pull up a trailer and bring everything needed for that child."He's hoping to launch a "Christmas in July" event this year, he said. That effort will provide school supplies to children who don't have them.Education: "School and I were not meant for each other. With dyslexia and ADD (attention deficit disorder), I only got as far as eighth grade. But my mother ... taught me the real estate business. She's a genius."Age: 44.Personal: Married to Lorea.
