Eastchester, NY – January 2007 – With housing and energy prices rising, many Westchester families are just getting by. Should some unforeseen circumstance like illness add an extra burden for those families, the effect can be devastating. The Bridge Fund of Westchester, an organization founded to help prevent homelessness for households experiencing short-term financial crises, meets the needs of those families and saves Westchester taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars annually in shelter costs. Just this past year, The Bridge Fund assisted over 800 individuals, including 434 children, with 231 evictions prevented and 58 moves to more affordable housing. The Bridge Fund’s work is supported strictly through private donations, so the group’s annual fundraiser is crucial to their ability to serve the needs of their clients. This year, their annual fundraiser was held at the Westchester Arts Council in White Plains. Westchester Real Estate, Inc. was one of several generous sponsors, allowing for funds raised from the event to be used to provide direct assistance to The Bridge Fund’s clients. Westchester Real Estate and its member firms have been long-time supporters of The Bridge Fund, sponsoring past events and encouraging their agents’ support for over 15 years. To date, almost $20,000 has been raised from the event, and donations are continuing to come in, according to the group’s Director, Lisa Buck. Ms. Buck recognized Westchester Real Estate’s support over the years in her presentation at the recent event.Westchester Real Estate, Inc. is a membership organization of leading independently-owned real estate companies.
