Charity brings cheer to Head Start kids

In a way that would have made Santa proud, the kids swooped in, got their toys and a snack, and were gone in little more than a blink of the eye.

One busload at a time, nearly 1,200 kids from 11 Palm Beach County Head Start programs, which provides preschool and child care for low-income families, were escorted into the North Palm Beach Country Club's Village Green Restaurant on Friday morning. Each child - most of whom were from 3 to 5 years old - got to choose a new, unwrapped toy from the stacks along the south side of the restaurant's banquet room.
