1346885612In every endeavor, whether helping clients buy and sell real estate or taking on the arduous task of remodeling their offices, Surterre Properties® is sure to practice what they preach – thinking and acting green to affect positive change in the community.

A leading, full-service real estate firm in Southern California, the eco-aware Surterre stayed true to their green roots with a recent re-carpeting project at their Newport Beach office.

Surterre was adamant that the undertaking be mutually beneficial for the company and for the environment. In that vein, they enlisted Padworks – a waste recycling company based in Santa Ana – to recycle their old carpet.

Made of 6,6 Nylon, the old carpet will be converted into composite lumber (both decking and sheets), tile backer board, roofing shingles, railroad ties or automotive parts.

1346885731Although a difficult and costly process, carpet recycling has a wide and positive impact on the environment, as it is estimated that 5 billion pounds of carpet are sent to landfills every year.

Surterre’s participation in the Padworks carpet recycling program diverted 955 pounds of carpet and 585 pounds of P.E.T. (polyethylene terephthalate) carpet from our nation’s landfills.

The new carpet Surterre had installed in their Newport Beach office is as sustainable as it is stylish – a testament to Surterre’s enduring eco-chic interior design philosophy.

Manufactured by Tandus Flooring, a company that shares Surterre’s commitment to the environment, the carpet is made of almost 40 percent recycled content. The new carpet also has a CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) Green Label – which attests that Surterre’s carpet tiles are responsible, low-emitting carpet.
