Surterre’s second Monarch Beach area eWaste event, held at the South Shores Church parking lot in Dana Point on June 9th, did a tremendous amount of good for the environment, collecting approximately 2,359 pounds (over a ton) of electronic waste, and shredding approximately 2,800 pounds of confidential documents on-site. For this event, Surterre and the Monarch Beach community’s commitment to ProShred’s environmentally conscious shredding and recycling service saved 24 trees. This year to date, Surterre’s Orange County eWaste events have shredded approximately 23,275 pounds of confidential documents on site and saved 203 trees.
A free service to the public held on a quarterly basis in three different areas of Orange County, Surterre’s eWaste drives offer individuals an easy opportunity to keep our planet and its landfills clean. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to bring those old electronics they don’t know what to do with (clunky television sets, fax machines, printers, and the like) to these events where they will be collected and recycled. Best of all, participants don’t even have to leave their car. There are no forms to complete, and any stored data will be safely and completely eradicated.

Betty Comegys, Surterre agent and leader of the Monarch Beach eWaste event indicates, “We had 52 cars come through, which is double the first event. Paper shredding was very popular and the public was extremely appreciative; some even made two trips.”
