1327686543Surterre Properties® recent Laguna Beach area eWaste drive, held at the Laguna Beach School District parking lot on January 14th, did a tremendous amount of good for the environment, collecting approximately 14,096 pounds (over 7 tons) of electronic waste, and shredding approximately 6,500 pounds of confidential documents on-site. For this event, Surterre and the Laguna Beach community’s commitment to ProShred’s environmentally conscious shredding and recycling service saved 60 trees.

A free service to the public held on a quarterly basis in different areas of Orange County, Surterre’s eWaste drives offer individuals an easy opportunity to keep our planet and its landfills clean. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to bring those old electronics they don’t know what to do with (clunky television sets, fax machines, printers, and the like), and paper to be shredded by ProShred to these events where they will be recycled. Best of all, participants don’t even have to leave their car. There are no forms to complete, and any stored data will be safely and completely eradicated.

1327686589“Our average turnout over the last couple of years has been around 250 groups through each eWaste drive,” Surterre agent and Laguna Beach eWaste event coordinator, Frank Hufnagel, explained. “At this event, we had 408! The semi-truck trailer was almost completely filled with eWaste. It’s great to see the community respond so positively to our event.”

In addition to sparing landfills from undesirables, the eWaste drives raise money, which is donated in its entirety to Earth Resource Foundation, a not-for-profit organization designed to educate the public on a variety of “green” issues.
