Women in Relocation Holds 6th Annual Holiday Luncheon and Silent Auction

1324333632New York, NY, December 19, 2011: Women in Relocation, a New York City-based national organization of relocation professionals, held their 6th Annual Holiday Luncheon and Silent Auction on December 1st at Alice’s Tea Cup in New York City. This event caps off yet another year of successful fundraising. Women in Relocation chose once again to support The Bridge Fund of Westchester and raised a record-breaking $2,600 for the charity. The mission of The Bridge Fund is to prevent homelessness for vulnerable, working poor individuals and families who are threatened with the loss of their housing but often do not qualify for emergency government assistance because they have some income. Women in Relocation founder Silvana Malpelli of Brown Harris Stevens said, “I am delighted and overwhelmed at the amount of money we raised this year to support families at a time of year when no one should have to think about losing their home.”

1324333535Maria Curtis and her son Vaughan, (pictured) clients of  “The Bridge Club of Westchester” attended the luncheon and shared their story of almost losing their home with the group. Her husband, a well-known architect, passed away suddenly of brain cancer four years ago leaving her with three small children to raise. She came to “The Bridge Fund of Westchester” when her house was going into foreclosure. They successfully prevented the foreclosure and Maria and the boys are still in their home two years later. The event was capped off by her son, 9-year old Vaughan, serenading the group on his violin.

Dedicated to providing a forum for men and women in the real estate relocation industry to meet and network with colleagues, Women in Relocation is committed to making a positive contribution to local communities. Lisa Buck, Director of The Bridge Fund of Westchester remarked, “The Bridge Fund of Westchester” is very grateful for the continued and generous support of Women in Relocation. It is especially meaningful in this challenging fiscal environment for organizations such as Women in Relocation to support privately funded programs so that they may remain fluid and steadfast. We salute their commitment to our program. Their donation will help us in our goal to assist hundreds of families and individuals in the coming year.”
