1311962251Pipeline to a Cure, a star-studded, surf-themed fundraiser to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, will bring live entertainment, TV celebrities and surfing legends to the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach, California on Aug. 6 for the country’s biggest event to fight a disease that affects 70,000 children worldwide.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that causes thick mucus to build up in the lungs and pancreas. The connection between surfing and Cystic Fibrosis began after Australian scientists realized that the salty air helped people with the disease to better eliminate that mucus, preventing serious lung infections and slowing digestive problems.

Since this discovery, professional surfers Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama have led the charge in teaching kids with Cystic Fibrosis how to surf while raising funds toward fighting the disease. Since Cystic Fibrosis receives no government funding, public donations are the only way to promote research and programs for those affected. Hamilton and Kalama have co-chaired Pipeline to a Cure since its inception in 2008, helping to raise more than $1.3 million directly for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in the last three years.

Fuel TV’s Matt Beachman and actor Shawn Parr will co-host the event while punk-pop band Emily’s Army provides live musical entertainment. Highlights also include a gourmet dinner, cocktail reception, live and silent auctions and a VIP lounge.

As the biggest fundraising component of Pipeline, the live auction features surfing trips to Maui, travel packages to Costa Rica, custom surfboards and Olympic paraphernalia. Resorts West, a luxury lodging provider at Deer Valley Resort, has also contributed a three-night stay at Black Bear Lodge, a slope-side ski lodge in Deer Valley’s Silver Lake Village. Attendees can also bid on the chance to get behind the wheel of a NASCAR driving machine, hang out with Oakley CEO Colin Baden or own a new Yamaha WaveRunner. The auction offers plenty of items that won’t break the bank as well, from surf apparel to restaurant packages.

Tickets are still available at www.pipelinetoacure.com for this Aug. 6 event. Every dollar raised at Pipeline to a Cure directly benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
