RENO, Nev. (July 25, 2011) – Two Chase International real estate agents, Joshua Talayka and Edee Campbell, have been selected to serve on the Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program’s new advisory committee. The agents, selected by the Nevada Supreme Court, will serve with 12 other professionals from various fields and backgrounds. Only two real estate agents were selected to serve on the committee.
The Foreclosure Mediation Program was created in 2009 (with the passage of Assembly Bill 149) to address the foreclosure crisis head on and help Nevada families keep their homes. The newly created advisory committee will evaluate the program on an ongoing basis and make suggestions on how to further the program’s success.
From the program’s first mediation in September 2009 through December 31, 2010, 9,135 mediations have been completed. Of those mediations, more than half (4,921) have resulted in some agreement, allowing 3,346 people to stay in their homes.
“While the program has evolved to give homeowners alternatives and options, like short sales, its original purpose was to allow them to keep their homes, so our goal is to bring those numbers up,” Talayka said.
“Since the onset of the current housing crisis, I have committed the majority of my business toward helping homeowners avoid foreclosure. Although this has primarily been accomplished by successfully negotiating short sales on behalf of my clients, I believe the only way Nevada has a chance to dig itself out of this crisis will be by increasing the success rate of all foreclosure alternative options including short sales and modifications,” said Talayka. “As a member of the Mediation Advisory Committee, my goal will be to extend my commitment beyond my clients to the state as a whole.”

Campbell and Talayka were carefully screened by each member of the Nevada Supreme Court before being selected for the committee. They will meet bi-monthly and serve on the committee for a one-year term, which can be extended.
