1310752714Mark McFadden of Washington Fine Properties has sold the Evermay Estate for $22 million. The 3.5-acre Georgian Revival estate is an historic landmark dating from 1792. The 12,000 square foot house was built by Samuel Davidson, a businessman and international maritime merchant who once owned more than 150 acres of land in the heart of the city, land eventually occupied by the White House, Treasury, Old Executive Office Building and Lafayette Park. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features a dining room that seats 40 guests, a stunning ballroom, beautiful gardens, swimming pool, tennis court, gatehouse, parking for 100 cars and magnificent views of the Washington Monument.

Evermay represents the most expensive home sale in the Nation’s Capital Region since the sale in Georgetown of 3124 Q Street in March of 2007, which was also sold by Washington Fine Properties. Evermay was last sold to DuPont Chemical heir F. Lammot Belin in 1923 and has been in his descendants’ hands for three generations.
