PALM BEACH, Fla. Deborah Beran, associate broker with RE/MAX Lakefront Realty, Inc., recently sponsored the Jay Robert Lauer Golf Tournament at The Breakers Palm Beach to support patient care programs of Hospice of Palm Beach County, Fla. As part of the event, Beran met NBC Today Show co-anchor Matt Lauer, who is the honorary chairman of the tournament, named in honor of his father. “It was a real thrill to meet Matt Lauer and hear first-hand from him the difference Hospice can make in the life of a family dealing with the terminal illness of a loved one,” said Beran, whose sponsorship was in honor of Muriel Golden, the late mother of friend and fellow lake resident Bill Golden. Muriel Golden was aided by Hospice of Palm Beach County during her illness. Beran, along with her husband, Bob Farley, Golden and his wife, Peggy Balla, had the dubious honor of finishing last in the tournament and earning the “Most Honest Team” award. Each received a new wedge as a prize. As part of the tournament’s dinner that evening, the couples also had the opportunity to meet numerous celebrities, including Bryant Gumbel and Greg Norman. Locally, Beran also sponsors the Rusty Coffman Memorial Tournament each year at The Waterfront Country Club, which benefits Carilion Hospice Services of Franklin County. “The Hospice mission is to provide services designed to enhance quality of life by focusing on the specific individual needs of both patients and families,” she said. “It’s really a cause that I believe in.”
