1296672692Alameda, CA (January 28, 2011) – Catherine Bierwith and Karen Miller, Realtors with Harbor Bay Realty, have recently earned the Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE) designation, having completed training in foreclosure avoidance and short sales. The knowledge they gained is valuable when assisting clients involved at either end of a foreclosure transaction.

Short sales allow a cash-strapped seller to repay the mortgage at the price that the home sells for, even though it is lower than what is owed on the property. If property values have decreased, this can save many owners from foreclosure and even bankruptcy. More and more lenders seem willing to consider short sales because they tend to be less costly than foreclosures.

“It is very rewarding to be able to guide sellers and help them attempt to save their homes from foreclosure, “said Miller.

Alex Charfen, founder of the Distressed Property Institute in Boca Raton, Florida said that Realtors such as Catherine and Karen with the CDPE designation have valuable training in short sales that can offer the homeowner better alternatives to foreclosure. Additionally, they have a solid understanding of market conditions and can help sellers through what is often an emotional experience.

The Distressed Property Institute opened in January 2008 and provides training on-site and online. The CDPE is the premier designation for Realtors helping homeowners in distress and handling short sales.

“I applaud Catherine and Karen for earning this valuable designation,” said Dennis Pagones, Harbor Bay Realty President. “Their commitment to stay abreast of market conditions as well as their desire to surpass their clients’ expectations is to be commended.”
