DENVER – The caring real estate professionals and support personnel with The Kentwood Company at Cherry Creek recently participated in its annual Adopt-A-Family event during the holiday season. Three families were adopted prior to Christmas, with Kentwood agents dividing into teams to purchase items on each family’s wish list, in addition to contributing gift cards for local supermarkets.
“Our office has been adopting families for several years, and it’s both fun and rewarding to give back to the community, especially during the holidays,” said Gretchen Faber, Managing Broker of The Kentwood Company at Cherry Creek. “This year, our families included a single mother with cancer who lost her job. Her wish list was for the basics like bath tissue and paper towels, she only wanted gifts for her children. Other families included a father who suffered a traumatic brain injury, and a grandmother raising two grandchildren. We helped them all have a better Christmas.”
“The best part of this program each year is getting together as an office to wrap the gifts in a big wrapping party,” said Kentwood staff member Amy Herrington. “We spread the gifts all over the conference table and wrap for hours. When we’re done, it looks like we need a huge sleigh to deliver everything.”
Every year, the Cherry Creek office takes on at least one local non-profit along with the adopted families. In past years, donations went to the Food Bank of the Rockies and to Loyola School. For this holiday season, the agents and staff spent two mornings delivering Meals-on-Wheels. The delivery day for Thanksgiving was so popular that a second day was added and the Kentwood DTC and City Properties offices were invited to participate. The second delivery day was for New Year’s Eve, with 18 routes handled by Kentwood agents.
“The agents who participated told amazing stories about their deliveries and interactions with the people along their routes,” said Faber. We had routes ranging from Lakewood to Aurora and points in-between. Several agents signed up for permanent routes because their experiences were so powerful.”
“It was amazing to see everyone lined up in their vehicles behind VOA to receive their meals and to say hello to our colleagues and friends,” said Broker Associate Pamela Colburn. “It was a great way to finish the year.”
