Arizona Housing Association Works to Protect Industry

1288369374PHOENIX, AZ (Oct. 26, 2010) – The Arizona Housing Association (AHA) provides member companies with effective representation at the state, county, and local levels of government through their Government Relations & Zoning Committee and ACT Now! advocacy program. This representation can take many forms. Problems are identified and resolved more effectively when the combined talents of both industry experts and governmental representatives work together for the mutual benefit of both. The Committee supports state and national efforts to promote positive legislation and protect the industry from harmful regulations that affect your business.

“Our Government Relations and Zoning Committee is an influential factor in keeping our membership up to date with the latest developments and legislation that affects our industry,” said Ken Anderson, AHA President. He continued, “By working together, AHA members are a much stronger force and have a much greater influence on our futures.”

Roger Wendt, Owner, Sunrise Home Service, and Member, Westwind Investments, LLC,is the Chairman of the AHA Government Relations & Zoning Committee. He has also served on the Board of Manufactured Housing for the past fourteen years, eight of those years as their Vice Chairman. Roger is currently serving as Developers Council Representative to the AHA Board of Directors and Secretary of the Executive Committee. Roger recently served as Treasurer (2009), and has also served as Contractors/Installers Council Representative to the Board of Directors from 1991 – 2007, during which time he held various Executive Board positions, including President (1997 – 1999), Vice President, & Secretary (2002 - 2005). He received the President’s Award (1992 – 1993) and was awarded the prestigious Ruth C. Kaseman Award in 2000.

Sue Burtzloffis the managing member overseeing operations of Adobe Homes, LLC. At the chapter level, she has previously served as interim treasurer, interim secretary, and has assisted with several Home Shows. Sue was recently elected to the position of Tucson Chapter Vice-President/Home Show Chairman, as well as being selected to head up this year’s Christmas Charity. At the state level, Sue has previously served on the Board of Directors as a Chapter Representative, as well as having served as PAC chairman. She is currently a member of the Governmental Relations and Zoning Committee, and the Political Action Committee, and was recently elected to serve as a Precinct Committeeman in Legislative District 26.

Paul C. DeSanctis is owner of Arizona Lending Specialists, LLC. Paul entered the mortgage industry in 1992 after receiving a B. S. in Real Estate Finance & Development from Arizona State University. He is a licensed Mortgage Broker with the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions. Paul served on the AHA Government Relations and Zoning Committee from 2000 – 2006 and was again appointed to the Committee in 2008. Paul was elected Lenders Council Representative to the Board of Directors in 2004. Paul also currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Office of Manufactured Housing and the Arizona Housing Finance Authority, and was most recently appointed to the Board of the Arizona Home Foreclosure Prevention Funding Corporation to find ways of using committed TARP funds to further foreclosure prevention activities.

Shawn Mullins is Engineering Manager for Cavco Industries, Durango Division with 22 years of industry experience to his credit. He started his career in the industry in 1988 with Fleetwood Enterprises, working in their corporate Engineering office, then spent 10 years with Cavco’s corporate Engineering group. His work with AHA Government Relations & Zoning Committee offers both technical and strategically sound solutions to industry regulatory issues. Other industry related interests include energy efficient design, green building strategies, and ongoing freelance writing for various industry periodicals.

David Roe, Jr. was elected by the Northwest Chapter to serve as their representative to the AHA Board of Directors in 2007 and again in 2009. He has been involved in all aspects of the manufactured home business since 1987, including Retail, Transporting and Installing, and will continue to support the industry and image in the future. Dave was recently appointed by Governor Jan Brewer to represent the industry by serving on the Overdimensional Permit Council. Dave was appointed to the Arizona Image Committee in 2008 and appointed as the Kingman area representative for our new ACT Now! Government Relations Program in 2009. With this appointment, Dave is also serving as a member of the Government Relations and Zoning Committee. He previously served on the AHA Board of Directors in 2003 and 2004, and has served as a Northwest Chapter Past President, Home Show Chairman and Secretary/Treasurer. Dave was awarded the President’s Award (2006 – 2007).

Joe Voorhees has over 16 years experience in the manufactured housing industry. He currently serves as a Sales Manager for Schult Homes at the Arizona Home Building Facility. His experience also includes Vice President of Sales for a major manufacturer in the West serving CA, NV, AZ, NM, CO, UT and TX. Joe currently holds the position of Vice President representing the Phoenix chapter. He has also held membership and/or board positions in industry associations in NM and TX.
